NYC BODYCOUNT: 51 SHOT OVER 4TH OF JULY WEEKEND
Updated: Aug 28, 2022

Over the Fourth of July weekend, a savage weekend of shootings left more than 50 people shot with at least seven fatalities.
The victims came from a diverse range of New Yorkers, including two former college rugby players who were shot while riding in a cab in Midtown and a beloved 62-year-old "grandfather" who was killed by stray bullets in a Bronx neighborhood.
According to NYPD records, a total of 51 people have been shot in 36 different incidents starting Friday, a significant increase from the 32 individuals shot in 27 shootings over the holiday weekend last year.
According to stats from the New York Post, 2022 saw nearly double the amount of gun shot victims in New York compared with 2021, where over two dozen people were shot across the city.
Notice this is not just criminals or gang members shooting each other. This is effecting the innocent lives of people living in the city with no effective efforts from the city.
The New York Post published some positive statements from the mayor:
“So, this national problem has played out on our streets,” Adams said. “We are making the right adjustments. We’re moving in the right direction and we’re going to win this battle.”
It will be interesting to see if the mayor is right or if the dangerous cavalcade of crime and violence will continue.
