CARJACKINGS IN CHICAGO EXPLODING TO RECORD HIGHS

Dangerous Combination: Carjackings More Violent & Less Likely to Be Stopped by Police

Following two years of sharp increases, Chicago carjackings are expected to surge once more in 2022, with a projected total that would be six times greater than just eight years ago.
According to Matt Rosenberg who analyzed the 2022 rates, "The data on Chicago carjacking through the years, and especially through the first half of 2022, serves as an unfortunate example of what happens when a city becomes 'open' for crime, with no real deterrence or consequences in most instances."

According to data provided by Wirepoints, Chicago is expected to experience 1,960 carjackings in 2022, breaking the previous high of 1,848 established only last year. In comparison to 2014, when the city reported 303 carjackings, the number would reflect an increase of more than sixfold.
The pattern that led to the sharp increase in carjackings began in 2020, when the number of instances for the first time exceeded 1,000, rising from the 603 reported in 2019.
"Chicago’s growing carjacking problem is a microcosm of what’s gone wrong in the city," Rosenberg wrote. "Carjackings are more frequent, they are more weaponized, and there are fewer consequences than at almost any time in recent history."
It gets worse because the data reveals that 76% of carjackings in the city this year have been labeled as "aggravated," which means that either a weapon was used during the crime or a victim older than 60 or younger than 16 was present.
Despite the increase, the city is also making less arrests for carjackings, with rates of arrest averaging about 10% from 2010 to 2019 before dropping to 6% in 2022, which is close to the record low of 5% recorded in 2020.
Let that sink in for a moment -- the vast majority of these violent crimes are being waged on older people by juveniles. Kids. More violent crime with less incentives to stop.
This should be a huge wake up call for us to get serious about our self-defense.
